- Dental excavators are used in dentistry, normally looks like a small spoon / curette.

- Used to scrub out a procedural cavity to prepare it ready for filling.

- Can be used in different tooth surfaces and in different parts of oral cavity.

- For Caries Excavation

- For Tooth Cutting

- To Remove Temporary Fillings

- For Carving Amalgam or Direct Wax Pattern

I. According to Shape -

Discoid : circular cutting edges

Cleiod : claw like cutting edges

II. According to Size -

No. 14 - 1.5 mm in diameter

No. 17 - 1.2 mm in diameer

No. 18 - 1.5 mm in diameter

No. 19 - 2.0 mm in diameter

III. According to Size -

Small - Use in small cavities.

            For Cleaning enamel / dentin junction

            Fragile , small force needed

Medium - To remove soft caries

                 For filling the cavity.

Large - In Excavation and  Restorative procedure

            To remove xcess filling material.
